heartstrings - episode 5
Eyes That Speak
Two dancers have requested this one and I’m glad they did because it is a song about empathy. It also has a quality of soothing and comforting in difficult times. My choreography reflects this. More than ever we need strong and kind hearts.
The song was written by the singer, Samite (pronounced ‘Sammy-Tay’) when his wife, Joan, lost her ability to speak during her battle with brain cancer. He wrote, “I found I could understand what she wanted to tell me if she turned and looked into my eyes”.
Samite is originally from Uganda. The song is Tunula Eno, from the album of the same name, and incorporates the gentle bell-like sound of a kalimba (thumb piano). www.samite.com
Hope you find the dance healing.
