Dancing Through Walls
Explore the contribution that participatory arts can make in the fields of conflict.
Protest, sanctions, political pressure and force only rarely achieve the justice and peace that people are struggling for. So while greatly respecting those who are fighting for justice on the political front, we see the need for a complementary approach.
Creative processes help us to expand intellectually, emotionally and spiritually I touch my creative core and find a mystery. Stepping beyond habitual barriers, I explore an expanded sense of identity. "Us" and "them" become less separate. Today I will listen without judging, and speak without blaming.
Key components include dance, movement, theatre arts, storytelling, music and song.
All sessions are accessible, and require no previous experience or special aptitude. The aim is to explore possibilities and to develop common ground. This leads to shared projects, enlivened communication, and creative approaches to conflict situations. We see the arts as a missing key to successful dialogue and negotiation.
Sessions are tailored to support peace initiatives and bridge-building among diverse groups. The aim is to create a palpable experience of interconnection while validating cultural and individual differences.
Besides initiating specific workshops and trainings, Dancing Through Walls offers an international support network. Creative peace-workers can collaborate, share admin and fundraising, learn from one-another‘s experience.
